Community of Savona

The lakeside community of Savona rests on the shores of Kamloops Lake 32 kilometers west of Kamloops, and to this day remains the only major settlement in the area dating back to the 1800’s. This town was named after the man who established a ferry service in the area across the Thompson River in 1865, Francois Savona. With a population of approximately 700, this thriving community relies heavily on the Ainsworth lumber mill and local cattle ranching and agriculture to sustain the economy.

Although it is a small community, Savona has more than what visitors would expect including a library, community hall, heritage museum, recreational house for seniors and a public boat launch.
