THINGS TO DO, PLACES TO SEE
- Chai-na-ta Ginseng Farms Tours – 250-372-9500 – The world’s largest grower and exporter of premium North American Ginseng. The company began operating in British Columbia in 1981 with just five acres of land, and has since expanded to 1500 acres under cultivation and an annual harvest of up to one million pounds. This represents 20% of the total global production of one of the world’s most priced herbs. Tours available for groups of 5 or more people, scheduled by appointment.
- Balancing Rock – Rock balancing on spirals of sand. Highway 1 at Kamloops Lake. ½ km past Kamloops Lake Lookout there is a gravel pull-off. Look over the concrete barrier into the valley to see the balancing rock.
- Deadman Valley Hoodoos – Unique and colourful rock formations. Drive west a few kilometers past Savona and turn right on Deadman Creek Road. Hoodoos are seen to the right about 15 km down Deadman Creek Road.
- Deadman Falls – Tumbles down 200 feet. Take the drive up the Deadman Creek Road through the scenic Deadman Creek Valley. Don’t forget your camera.
- Savona Caves – Native caves were used for rituals and celebrations at the turn of the century. Extreme mountain hike up to caves may be dangerous. 6 km return hike – about one hour. 1 km before Savona Restaurant, turn south on Tunkwa Lake Road. 11 km up road, turn right at 402 Road over cattle guard and park at fork in the road. Hike up main dirt road, then right on old wagon road, trail leads off the left at end of trail.
- Centre of the Universe – Located at the tip of Vidette Lake, a fishing lodge called Vidette Gold Mine Resort is nestled between the trees. Located on this resort’s property, high above the lodge is a small knoll with a most unusual claim. This spot at he confluence of three valleys is considered to be the centre of the universe.
- Golf – Tobiano Golf Course, championship 18 hold golf course overlooking beautiful Kamloops Lake.
